Birth of Captain George Edward Henry ‘McIrish’ McIlroy , receiver of a Distinguished Flying Cross Medal by British RAF after shooting down 47 German aircraft during World War One. Was stationed in Dublin, during Easter Rising, but refused to fire on Republican rebels.
May 15th, 1867
Eoin MacNeill is born. Gaelic scholar, co-founder of the Gaelic League and founder of the Irish Volunteers.
May 15th, 1847
Daniel O’Connell dies in Genoa, Italy.
